Founded in 2001, digital PET Imaging Lab of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (PETLab@HUST) is an intellectual destination for inspired scholars to "Visualize the invisible, Envision the future".
The PETLab is jointly supported by Wuhan National Laboratory for optoelectronics (WNLO), Italy national clinical research center (Neuroscience) and University of Science and Technology of China. An oversea branch of it, PETLab@ NEUROMED, was established in Neuromed institute, one of the largest brain science and brain diseases research center in Europe in 2017. Another branch in German is also in the plan.
PETLab is dedicated to the scientific, technology and application research demonstration of Positron Emission Tomography (PET). It is the headstream of all-digital PET technology and has been pioneering in this direction for decades.
The concept of “all-digital PET” is conceived here, based on Multi-Voltage Threshold (MVT) sampling method, which made accurate sampling of high-speed scintillation pulse feasible. Different from conventional analog-digital hybrid PET systems, the MVT-based all-digital PETs can acquire accurate digital samplings of high-speed scintillation pulses without having the hassle of analog electronics. The result is a much concise system with marvel improvements in performances. In the past 2 decades, the PETLab has developed the world’s first small animal all-digital PET, the first clinical all-digital PET/CT and the first brain all-digital PET. The clinical PET/CT was granted “Medical Device Registration Certificate” from CFDA in May, 2019.
Any progress in medical technology is a blessing to the humankind. With pride and honor, researchers in digital PETLab themselves to spread this new technology and call for talents all over the world to join this adventure.
